SUMMARY: This position provides monitoring, direction, instruction, education, education and guidance to students and staff on the development of positive living skills and behaviors for District.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides student conflict/crisis intervention; provides in-house suspension/detention resources
  • Acts as time-out monitor for students who need to remove themselves from the issue and resolve the situation in a positive manner or have been sent to office for time out
  • Assists students with alternative methods of dealing with situations
  • Interviews students about conflicts or problems to determine causes or issues leading to conflicts;
  • Prepares updates and reports on activities
  • Implements Behavior Modification Plans established by multi-disciplinary team
  • Works with playground monitors, teachers, instructional assistants and counselor to teach conflict resolution process, peer mediation, bully proofing and alternative behavioral choices
  • Maintains and monitors recess mediation schedules
  • Provides training of peer mediators
  • Monitors study halls and lunch rooms to observe, reinforce and correct behaviors
  • Gathers information about potential problems utilizing observation and listening skills
  • Prepares and gathers information and materials related to subject matter for distribution in educational & informational packets
  • Prepares bulletin boards on monthly topics

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of District rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of principles of curriculum based guidance and instructional materials methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of the development of age and interest appropriate training methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution, crisis intervention and behavior management methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of customer service methods and techniques
  • Skill in maintaining confidentiality of information
  • Skill in redirecting student behavior in a positive manner
  • Skill in gathering and developing educational and instructional material packets related to lesson plans
  • Skill in written and oral communications
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Associates Degree 
  • Two (2) experience working with children and managing behavior (Preferred)
  • Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance
  • Maintain requirements for access to Fort Huachuca

Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

 

Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and job specific computer programs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk. The employee may be required to move ten pounds and could occasionally lift or move up to twenty-five pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with employees, external agencies and the public. May be exposed to infectious diseases, air, water and bodily fluid borne pathogens.
